The wine-making regions of the Loire Valley stretch for over a 1000 km. between Orleans and Saint-Nazaire, covering 70,000 hectares of land with vineyards, which enjoy a particularly favourable mesoclimate.
Their produce comprises sec and demi-sec white wines, white dessert wines, light red wines, as well as sparkling and rosé wines. 32 Loir wines come under the AOC category, 15 are VDQS, while around 40 are listed as Vin de Pays.
The local Crémant, a high quality sparkling wine, enjoyed such a success, that its producers were awarded the second place after the Champagne region vintners.
